Workers' Compensation Legislative Update

Public Chapter 1149 will go into effect March 1, 2011 and will require Sole Proprietors, Partners, LLC Members and Corporate Officers in the Construction Industry to cover themselves under Workers' Compensation.  However, this new law does create a procedure to file for an exemption from obtaining workers' compensation coverage on yourself.  Construction industry employers must still provide workers' compensation insurance on statutory employees, even if the employer has only one such employee.
